October 25, 1935 - March 30, 2024

Joan Zipperer Shealey

Joan Agnes (Zipperer) Shealey, age 88, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on March 30, 2024. She was born on October 25, 1935, in Savannah to the late Israel H. and Agnes C. Zipperer.

Joan attended Savannah High School, graduating in 1953. She began working at Savannah Bank and Trust, then took time off to raise her three children. She eventually went back to work at Smiley's Sewing Center.

A beloved member of the White Bluff Methodist Church, Joan enjoyed singing in the choir; she was also a member of the building committee. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and needlecraft, sharing her creativity and talent with the gifts she gave others. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and supported her children in all their sports and other activities. Joan was an active member of the Bethel Burton Community Center Homemakers Club.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Donald Shealey, and her children: Steven Shealey (Ardith), Glenn Shealey (Sheila), and Cynthia Green; grandchildren Julie Musselman, Brenda Sinoff, Thomas Ford, Glennda Shealey-Griffiths, George Triebel, Steven Triebel, Stephanie Shealey, Dustin Green, and Hunter Green; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Israel H., and Agnes C. Zipperer, her brothers Marion McDonald Zipperer, Robert Zipperer and John Zipperer, and her sister Frances Cole.

The Funeral Service to honor her life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel.

A private burial will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Savannah in memory of Joan.

Joan will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, faith, and creativity will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
